FAQs

What is Balfour Beatty doing?

Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has been appointed by Stockton Borough Council to construct the exciting new North Shore Footbridge connecting Stockton’s Teesdale Business and University Area with the North Shore development.

The bridge will be seen as a landmark structure illustrating engineering innovation. It will reflect the ‘state of the art’ developments planned for the area and it will form a fundamental element of the footpath and cycle network in the area, which forms part of the Teesdale Way.

How long will Balfour Beatty be working for?

Our team have been on site since July 2007. Works will be completed by the end of 2008.

Our main objectives during the project are to construct the bridge safely and to minimise disruption to the surrounding area. Our initial presence on site will be to ensure that a safe construction site is established that has a minimal impact on the area.

To keep you informed we will regularly update our site progress boards which will be adjacent to the footways. We will also establish viewing areas so you can watch the progress as it happens.

Will Balfour Beatty be using the best available method of work?

Balfour Beatty have worked with Stockton Borough Council and White Young Green to develop a scheme that will minimise the impact the works will have on the local residents, the environment and visitors to North Shore.

We pride ourselves on being a considerate contractor and strive to achieve the highest possible standards. The code of practice we work to can be found at www.ccscheme.org.uk

These works will result in a major benefit to your local area and we hope you will experience the minimum of disruption however, we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.

How will we be affected?

We will minimise disruption to the surrounding area as much as possible. Some minor footpath diversions will be in place on either side of the river. These will be clearly signed to ensure the safe passage of pedestrians.

Who do I contact if I require my questions answered?

You are welcome to contact a member of our team on site to answer your queries.

Where will the bridge be located?

The bridge will link the Teesdale Business Park with the planned North Shore Development. On the North Shore the bridge will cross the River Tees to the east of Dugdale Street. The bridge will cross to the South Bank adjacent to the University College Stockton on Tees Holliday Building.

Where can we view the works from?

As with all construction sites it is necessary to create a boundary between members of the public and site operations for the safety of all.

The construction works can be viewed best from the footpath along the North Shore, adjacent to the works.
