January 2008 Update
Balfour Beatty Update - January 2008
Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has been appointed by Stockton
Borough Council to construct the exciting new footbridge connecting
Teesdale and Queen’s Campus with Tees Valley Regeneration’s North Shore
development.
The bridge will be seen as a
landmark structure illustrating engineering innovation. It will reflect the
‘state of the art’ developments planned for the area and it will form a fundamental
element of the footpath and cycle network in the area, which forms part of the Teesdale Way.
Progress this month
Now that the design of the bridge is almost complete and the cofferdam in the
river is installed the focus of our operations is moving towards the
construction of the Permanent Works for the project.
The
steelwork fabrication is now in full swing at Cleveland Bridges fabrication
works in Darlington. Work is in progress on
the construction of the legs for the central support which will be landed on
the river Pier in April.
Site work
will continue on the construction of the Central Pier and also on the
construction of the North and South Abutments which will support the arch.
Work on
the North bank is now underway. The construction of the precast concrete deck
is planned to commence inside a specially constructed tent. There will also be
an element of piling work for the construction of special foundations to
support a 1200t crane which will be used to install the main arch.
Our methods of work
Balfour Beatty have worked with Stockton
Borough Council and White Young Green to develop a scheme that will minimise
the impact the works will have on the local residents, the environment and
visitors to North
Shore.
We pride
ourselves on being a considerate contractor and strive to achieve the highest
possible standards. The code of practice we work to can be found at
www.ccscheme.org.uk.
These works will result in a major benefit to your local area and we hope you
will experience the minimum of disruption. However, we would like to apologise
in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause.
